Did you noticed that your Facebook counter disappear? Or may be display zero? Yes, we know how horrible is that for everyone that care about the social media optimization stuff.  But please keep calm, there is nothing wrong with the ESSB settings of your installation. Just Facebook changed the URL of the API, from where the counter numbers data is taken.

To make your counter work flawlessly it is need to update and to make few very important setting changes. But let’s start from the very beginning. The first thing you need to do is to

Update Easy Social Share Buttons to version 3.7.2

Version 3.7.2 is added to automatic updates. So if you have filled you purchase code and have activated automatic updates, probably you are working with the last version. In that case skip the instructions in that step and go to the settings that have to be changed after the update.

You can update manually as well. Deactivate and delete your current version. Then download the ESSB 3.7.2 from your Codecanyon profile and install as usual. All the settings made till now will be saved after the update.

Setting changes needed after the update

We strongly recommend to switch on cached counters. That setting can be done under

Social Buttons -> Social Sharing -> Counters -> Counters Update

The recommended interval for counter update is 6-12 hours. That will prevent too much calls in same tame to be sent to Facebook.

Clear all the caches

After the update of the new version all the caches have to be cleared:

  • If you have cache plugin – clear the cache.
  • If you use CDN – update the files, otherwise your site will still work with the old URL of the Fasebook’s API.
  • If you work with some of ESSB cache options like build-in cache or precompiled mode – turn off these settings, update settings and then turn them on again. This will ensure that brand new cache files will be generated with the new API of Facebook.
